Druid Wood Head

Graphite and Coloured pencil on paper

70x100cm

exhibited at:

Resident 11, Royal Scottish Academy, 2011

Between the Late and the Early, Royal Scottish Academy, 2013

A response to visits to various druid woodlands, both on the Isle of Skye (where I was artist in residence at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig Gaelic College) and beyond.

Also a response to The Druids by Stuart Piggott and Druids by Anne Ross.

As with most of my 'head' drawings, it is an exploration of the relationship between mind and matter as it is manifested by consciousness, or the correlation between subject and object.

In that regard, also influenced by the writings of David Bohm, Thomas Ligotti, Eugene Thacker, Graham Harman, and Quentin Meillasoux.
